Today, we are recognized as one of the world leaders in construction. This would not be possible but for years of history and experience. With the help of new technologies and innovations, we are constantly changing the way we plan the work and execute projects. At Skanska, we are guided by principles and values to build a better society and friendly places to live in. Our goal is to create a space you will call home!
In a rapidly changing world, every company has to find a way to adapt to the market and respond efficiently and satisfactorily to customers’ needs. We have it perfectly masterminded – this is possible thanks to our nearly 150 years of experience.
Skanska’s history dates back to 1887 – that’s when Aktiebolaget Skånska Cementgjuteriet was founded by Rudolf Fredrik Berg. Although we were initially engaged in the production of concrete elements, after some time, we entered the construction market for good. After 10 years, we were commissioned our first foreign project.
In the mid-1950s we began operations in foreign markets – South America, Africa and Asia. In 1965, our company was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, and in 1971, we appeared in the US. In 1984, Skanska became our official name. In the 1990s, we began a period of expansion.
Our headquarters is in Stockholm. We have more than 41,000 employees worldwide, and our 2023 revenue was approximately SEK 157.1 billion. Our business is focused on the construction and development of residential, office, and infrastructural projects in selected markets in Europe and America.
Our portfolio includes projects such as Gherkin in London and Oculus in New York, as well as renovations of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
We have been building high-quality residential estates and houses in Poland for more than twenty years. Our most well-known projects include Poznań’s Rynek Łazarski, Wrocław’s Centrum Południe and Warsaw’s Park Ostrobramska. However, we also draw on our experience in designing and erecting estates and houses in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Finland, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.
In line with our philosophy, we focus on environmentally friendly construction. We take care to ensure a balance between residential spaces and green zones, as well as the thoughtful development of common areas for residents.
We pay special attention to designing spaces without architectural barriers. Independent certificates prove the quality of our projects, confirming that we do everything to ensure the highest level of safety and comfort for residents.
Skanska’s presence in Poland dates back to the early 1970s. It was then that our first modern hotels in the country were built: Forum and Victoria in Warsaw. Then came office projects. Among the most modern contemporary projects are P180 or Studio B in Warsaw
or Nowy Rynek in Poznań. We also develop innovative and sustainable residential estates, such as Solen Kabaty and Holm House in Warsaw or Hemma Orawska in Kraków.
We operate in accordance with the principle of sustainable development. We are a leader in the Polish market in the field of so-called green construction. Ethics and occupational safety form the basis of our every action. The values we profess are an expression of who we are, how we act, and what we believe in.
We work safely or not at all. The health and well-being of our employees is important to us. When we build, we promote green, environmentally friendly solutions and conduct our business in a way that is in harmony with nature.
We feel the responsibility towards future generations. We support a culture of inclusion; we are open to the comments and suggestions of customers and contractors – we collect their opinions in surveys so that we can later implement the results during project execution. We conduct our business with maximum transparency. By showing trust and respect for each other, together we build the Skanska brand. And we are proud of it.
Construction security is our top priority for our business. We finance projects with our own funds, and we place customers’ money in open escrow accounts. We provide convenient support in the apartment purchase process, and our team is also at your disposal after you have purchased your home.
Our housing estates are appreciated not only by residents but also by the professional community. We have received multiple awards for people- and nature-friendly solutions, as well as for high-quality architecture.
We have won, among others, the Architectural Award of the Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw, “Rzeczpospolita’s” Green Eagle, “Polityka’s” CSR Leaves and PLGBC Green Building Awards. In addition, we were a laureate in the Architectural and Urban Design Competition, “Accessibility Leader”.
We are a member of the Polish Association of Real Estate Developers – an industry organization that has been caring about the condition of the developer market in Poland for 20 years. The organization has already brought together more than 300 developers from all over the country, applying the Code of Good Practices and caring for sustainable development.
